1st scan today

We went in for our first scan today at 6w2d and did see one sac (measured at 6w1d) with a heartbeat (well, everyone did but me anyway). I feel like Rachel in the episode of Frie*nds where she pretended to see the baby on the us monitor with the Dr. in the room, but really couldn't. I am not sure how I am feeling right now. The Dr. wants us to come back in a week for another ultrasound. Is this good or bad? I don't know. I didn't feel like I got a straight answer. She said to go ahead and make an appt for an OB and was very congratulatory, but I felt like she was a little guarded.

Question for blogland - the heartbeat was measured twice at 103 and 105. I have tried to find info this afternoon and everything is so vague. Anyone know if this is in the normal range or not. I get the idea that this is on the bottom edge of the range and that has me worried.

First congrats on your first scan! Sorry you couldn't see the heartbeat yourself. I have no experience in this myself, however I did find this: "A normal heartbeat at 6-7 weeks would be 90-110 beats per minute."

Seems like you're in normal range and not on the low side at all.

Here's the link. I'm going to break it up into 3 lines so it doesn't cut off.

BTW--thanks for what you wrote on my blog yesterday :)

Yay!! That's totally normal! By next week, you'll see much more, including the heartbeat. It will be much more obvious by then! This is SO exciting!! I am so happy for you, I've got tears of joy for you!! ;)

Congratulations on seeing a heartbeat! When I had my 6.5 week ultrasound, my RE said anything over 100 is good. Your doctor is probably just being unnecessarily cautious. Hopefully next week's results will put everyone's mind at ease.

That is wonderful!

Oh, and I had scans at 6 and 7 weeks, so that's about right. After my 7 week scan I "graduated".

Can't help with an answer to your question, but I'm glad to know that the indications are good!

ahahahaha I am laughing at the friends reference - because my husband and I say that we will do the same thing ....... pretend to see it.. Because when they do a scan of my ovaries I never understand how they see what they see - grats on the great results

Week 6 starts at 103 and ends at 126 bpm

6+2 is really the first day a hb can be expected to be seen..

"By vaginal probe high resolution scanning the embryo is first seen between 5.7-6.1 weeks, with heartbeat appearing at 6.2 weeks."

Congratulations!! That heartbeat doesn't sound low to me, given your baby's age. In another week or two it will pick up considerably.

CONGRATULATIONS! great news!!!!
from what i understand the earliest you can see a heartbeat is at 6 weeks. it is also normal to come back for a second scan. After my second scan i was sent off to a regular obgyn although i continued my shots thru almost the end of the first trimester.
again very happy about your news and hoping your next scan goes as well.

Yep, I graduated at 7 weeks, too! Maybe next week you'll be able to see the heartbeat-it looks like a light flickering!

Coming back in a week is totally standard for an RE after a first scan. Telling you to go ahead and call your OB is a good sign. The heartbeat range is great for 6 weeks!

You're doing really well!! :) Hooray!!

Hi- just papped over here through some surfing...
Congrats on the u/s, and the heartbeat. It all seems totally normal to me. (And about seeing the baby correctly: I had a pic from one of my scans-at 8 wks- where I told everyone that the head was the rump and vice versa, until my husband corrected me.)
As for follow-up scans- they are totally normal at the RE's office. My RE fianlly cut me off from weekly scans at 10 wks- I don't I'm still not sure if his "generosity" is a blessing or a curse as I got pretty addicted to them.
In any case: best of luck, and I'll be back to check on you

Congratulations on the scan! I have heard/read that anything over 100 at this point is considered good news.

It sounds like things are moving right along . . .congrats! The good thing about getting caught up late is now there is only a few more days until your next scan. Hope it continues to go well.
